Maine Lobster or Massachusetts Lobster
Lobster as a food source was deemed unworthy of the upper classes until the 1850’s and for most of America’s history was seen as either peasant food or prisoner food!.
And now we can’t seem to get enough of it!
This may be why Maine embraced lobster earlier and is known for it, while Massachusetts, for some odd reason, is where everyone comes and asks for Maine Lobster!
There is, literally, no difference other than the name.
I once spoke to a Massachusetts Lobsterman who said, “We see boats from Maine all the time, we pull from the same waters.”
When it comes down to it, Maine just markets better and built a more than 70 year festival around celebrating the crustacean. Â www.lobsterfrommaine.com
