One defining Massachusetts characteristic of our food scene are the areas that thrive with local restaurants all on one street (or densely packed area.) In most places around the country, this would be seen as too much competition for one area; in Massachusetts, it is about making a destination where you can’t miss getting a great meal.
We are going to try to highlight three per area, but you can and should explore each of these neighborhoods on your own as most have expanded with offshoots and offerings.
Moody Street, Waltham
Plymouth Waterfront
Hanover Street / North End — The largest “Little Italy” in America, you cannot get a bad meal there. While locals may complain from time to time about tourists and prices, we all keep going back!
Shrewsbury Street, Worcester — While a lot of new faces have popped onto the scene in Worcester, the staples are what has built Shrewsbury Street to be the destination that it is today.
Lowell — Because of the layout of the city, it is more about the 5 neighborhoods, but each have their own flavor.
Salem, MA –Â Like Boston, the whole place is a great walking city! I stick to the ocean, but it is a great place to go and explore, and not just in October.
Lansdowne Street Boston –Â I love going to Fenway when there is no Red Sox game, because so many of the restaurants have out door seating!
