No one takes the great restaurants for granted in Massachusetts, and sometimes we overlook the places that have been here the longest. This is exactly when we need to remember our excellent Irish restaurants. With a back bone of Guinness and the soul of comfort food.
Make sure to check all their pages for updates on live music and entertainment. And as always, direct links to their Facebook pages for all below.
Dunn Gaherin’s, Newton – It looks like an Irish cottage, on the outside and inside! Don’t miss out on the corn beef raviolis, a special for the season that will convert even the strictest Irish cuisine snob.
The Emerald Rose, Billerica – A hidden Emerald in Billerica, a huge and beautiful building, it is split with a white table cloth side, and a beautiful wood bar side. Menu is excellent and a perfect place for a date night.
The Irish Cottage, Methuen – Locals swear by it, so if it is packed, don’t say we didn’t warn you!
The Tinker’s Son Norwell – Beautiful stain glass window greets you as you enter and, like most of the spots on this list, you are transported to an Irish Pub. Excellent fireplace if you can get a seat.
The Black Rose, Boston – An institution, a must stop for a Guinness when you are in Fanieul Hall.
Mr. Dooley’s Irish Pub, Boston
JJ Foley’s, Boston – Considered one of the oldest family run Irish pubs in Boston, J.J. Foley’s Café has been serving patrons for over 100 years.
McGuiggan’s Pub Whitman – Nothing like a place for Guinness, great food, Shepherds Pie Pizza, and Irish Sessions of live music on week nights.
The Druid Pub, Cambridge – An institution in Inman Square, make sure to get the fish and chips.
Tavern at the End of the World, Charlestown – One of those places that never gets it due attention, but it should!
The Raven’s Nest, Walpole – Reinforcing that some of the best Irish Pubs and food are in the suburbs!
O’Connor’s Restaurant and Bar, Worcester – While it deserves every nice thing that can possibly be said, it probably has one of the best steaks you will find at a restaurant not officially considered a steak house. Get it, and thank me later.
The Snug Irish Pub, Hingham – Even in the fancy towns, our Irish roots of Massachusetts permeate and bring a cozy pub for a pint, or something a little stronger!
