The von Trapp Family has a well documented history, thanks to The Sound of Music play and movie. But most people do not realize in the early forties they settled in Stowe, Vermont and have run a year round resort with the feel and flavor of Austria ever since.
DINING
Foodies will love the Trapp Family Lodge
For breakfast, the lodge’s buffet boasts their own maple syrup served hot with great mountain views; or their shuttle bus can take you to the Kauffee House with fresh made pastries you can enjoy by the fire or at the coffee bar with more great views
The Lodge dining room features live music, Wine dinners and traditional Austrian dishes like Chanterelle Mushroom Toast, with sauteed herb garlic wild mushrooms, creamy goat cheese spread and a Trapp Family Farm Poached Egg on Trapp Family Bakery English Muffin
And Wiener Schnitzel vom Schwein, a breaded pork loin, herbed spätzle, cucumber salad, red cabbage,fresh lemon and lingonberry jam.
But also favorites like Steak Tartare, made with Trapp Family Farm Beef with shallots, capers, Trapp Family Farm Egg yolk and fingerling crisps, Prime Rib night on Wednesdays and Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass with lemon herb couscous and rustic Mediterranean sauce.
For dessert, the Linzertorte a spiced walnut shortbread with raspberry & red currant jams and Apfelstrudel made with flaky pastry | apples | cinnamon | raisins are worth keeping it traditional.
And the Lodge lounge bar is excellent for a cocktail by the fire.

SO MANY ACTIVITIES
At the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe Vermont, there’s a lot to do. ACTIVITIES VIDEO RECAP
They have dozens of Cross Country Skiing trails and snowshoeing tours to the Sugar Shack where they tap trees and boil down Maple Syrup.
And getting ready outside is easy in their heated Yurt.
You can meet the Scottish Cows, friendly Sheep and Horses for Sleigh rides in the winter and carriage in the summer.
The Wellness center offers a lot; a sauna, Indoor pool, yoga, and massages, but everyone loves the outdoor hot tub.
BREWERY
The von Trapp Brewery BREWERY VIDEO RECAP located at the Trapp Family Lodge has been making award winning Austrian Lagers since 2010, and hosts a beer hall and events throughout the year.
My personal favorite was there Wheat Beer
They offer Austrian staples like the Cheddar Lager Soup made with Helles lager and Cabot white cheddar. and the Chicken Schnitzel with bacon apple kraut, braised red cabbage, arugula, lingonberry vinaigrette and Trapp Family Farm fried egg, finished with lemon oil
They also offer beer food classics like burgers and pulled pork sandwiches.
But you have to get the Bavarian Pretzels and their amazing beer cheese.
